10 facts: Meital

Featherhead

I've seen this meme around, and it seems fun, so I thought to write about some of my dolls. The idea is basically to tell ten facts about your doll. I decided to start with Meital, my Little Monica Sophia.

1) The very first version of "Meital" was Orientdoll So Ji. Truth to be told, she had nothing else in common with current Meital except her name and blonde hair colour.

2) I re-bought Meital as a SD-sized doll later. Her first versions were all three different versions of Musedoll Ciel with Fantasydoll / Dollfie Dream body. I still have a warm spot for Ciel, but she was Meital for me too long that I could see anything else in that sculpt.

3) Currently Meital is nDoll Aiko, who later turned into Little Monica Sophia.

4) I really liked Little Monica's Innocent Sophia and considered a purchase. I decided to use the money to fund other projects, though, since that head would have become just Meital's extra head.

5) I have a small obsession of having the prettiest SD-sized girl doll I know as Meital, since she's my princess. So far Sophia has taken the cake, but if something even prettier came along, I could grab it.

6) One of the big reasons I decided to buy Sophia / then Aiko was also that I was afraid of staining her vinyl body (Dollfie Dream). Resin's much safer!

7) Meital's character has developed a lot, too. When I first got her, she was supposed to be ethereal, old, beautiful and wise. She's still beautiful, but those other things...no, she's definitely not wise xP But she has a different kind of wisdom which comes from true innocence and kindness.

8) Despite experiencing and witnessing difficult and cruel things, the best part of Meital's character is that she truly remains innocent and believes that the world is a good place. I always think that she's an angel because Father, her god, protects her gentle, childlike heart.

9) I wish I could lie that there is a huge, deep story behind my angels, my lifelong achievement or something really epic. But the truth is that I just got the idea from watching Haibane Renmei, because I liked their wings and haloes xP If I could start over, I might create something more dreamlike and less, uh, Christian-themed. But it's too late now, so Meital shall be a traditional angel until the rest of her days.

10) Meital is probably the one who has most relationships around. Let's see, she has:

  • Brothers, Niko and Lochesh.
  • Mother, Hecate.
  • Spouse, Uncle K
  • Niece, Apsu.
  • Pet pigeon / letter carrier, Hildegard
  • Some kind of pet, Kiki.

The butterfly lady

Photo © Soom

Uh, did I say that I don't like Soom Supergem females? I maybe did, but oh well, I'm very quick to change my mind :P When Epidia was released, at first it seemed that nobody liked her very much. I first read the comments, then went to Soom's site to check her out, and to my surprise, I found her quite personal and lovely. And then I did something that always leads to bad things, I started thinking if she was my doll, what would I do with her....

And all right, I managed to come up with a style, a story and a character which are all now very much alive in my head, and so I ordered her <3 No, she won't be a vampire xD (I've never cared about vampires.) A tragic nightmere lady with tons of black butterflies, an old diva who is sad, bitter, dignified, beautiful and little crazy. I've already stocked up some sewing supplies for her, black, violet and gold with ethnic/Indian influences - and yes, I ordered her my most expensive pair of doll shoes. Almost 60 dollars for a single pair of doll shoes + shipping? Yeah, I'm quite crazy. But they're so stylish, they remind me of Alexander Macqueen *_*

One payment to go! I just need to find her a perfect name xD

Cake, lolitas and little fairies

My friends and I visited Kakkugalleria yesterday dressed up in lolita / fairy kei. Photos of our outfits can be spotted from Tumblr again :3 Damn I wish it was easier to apply multiple photos on Blogger in a pretty way...oh well, then again I don't feel comfortable writing lots of text to Tumblr since people will reblog that blabber too xP No dolls this time, but we joked that my wig looks like Leeke's human size wig! Yeah, the colour and quality is very similar. We had a great time, although I didn't eat so much cake. I had one slice and drank three big cups of coffee <3

Photo from Sora*iro
And back to topic...aren't those new Pocketfairies from Sora*iro just adorable? I especially like Didi, luckily I already have her. Noma looks a lot like May too, so I'm able to skip her too. Tinyfairy May is also really adorable! Those little bowtie bags <3 Gah, this Bluefairy-fever!

Doll meme

Since I have nothing better to do anyway!

Who was your first doll? Do you still own him, her, or it?

Aegis, my Angelregion Ami boy. I most certainly do, and I probably could never sell him.

Who is your favorite doll?

Well, I'd rather not play favourites, but if I had to choose, Meital (nDoll Ami, these days Littlemonica Sophia) could be the most pampered ones.

Which doll do you hope or plan to buy next?

Surprisingly, I have no BJD plans at the moment. I'm hoping to purchase a Jerryberry in the future, but it's not my top priority right now.

Quick! You've instantly got $800 and must choose a doll to spend it on right now or it's gone forever! Who do you pick?

Eep, on one doll? Ehm, difficult...I dunno xD; Like I said, right now I have no BJD plans. But please do send the money, I'm sure I could spend it easily ;)

Quick! You've instantly got enough money for any one and must choose a doll to spend it on right now or it's gone forever, but this time you have to buy the doll for someone else! Who gets the dolly, and what do you get them?

Illves! She could pick up anyone she wanted, although I always joke that if I ever won in the lottery, I'd purchase her her most awful, ickiest RPG character's doll form xD (Trust me, no one wants to see him as a doll.)

Are you currently waiting on any dolls, heads, or bodies?

Why thank you for asking, I am. Leeke's Ronald head, and Doll-Chateau's Hilary.

Do any of your dolls seem to like you to the point that they are infatuated with you?

Oooooh no, no...just no :x

Do any of your dolls seem to dislike or even hate you?

With all the junk I buy them, those rascals should be grateful!

Who's your most expensive doll at the time you purchased them, not counting items you bought separately for them?

Adriel, Iplehouse's Bichun LE. Well, there are many much more expensive dolls out there, but for me, he was rather pricey.

Who's the least expensive doll you own?

Probably mr. Paw, Camellia Dynasty's Wong. He was about 100 dollars.

Is there a limit to what you'd spend on a doll?

Yes. I think 1000 dollars is about the limit, and the doll in question should be rather unique. For a basic human doll, I'd go for cheaper alternatives.

Which doll did you wait for the longest so far?

Probably Morrigan, Customhouse Cebee. Customhouse had their first sale event (of many more *eyeroll*), and the waiting was long and uncertain.

Which doll had the shortest wait so far?

I think nDoll shipped Meital the next day I paid her <3

Who's the biggest doll you own?

Adriel, since he's EID. I don't know if Uncle K is taller though, but he's super skinny.

Who's the smallest doll you own?

Probably mr. Paw. If you don't count him, my Pukifees.

Got any floating heads? If yes, how likely are they to receive bodies anytime soon?

MNF Marcia Dreaming. I have no idea, I've seriously considered selling her since she doesn't inspire me at the moment. But we'll see what I'll do with her.

Got any floating bodies?

Nope.

Do you have any extra, unclaimed pairs of eyes? How many if so?

I have some extra eyes, I don't know how many.

Do you have any extra, unclaimed wigs? How many if so?

All my wigs belong to someone. My SD girls both have extra wigs to suit different moods, well, because I like changing their hair :P

Anything you've said "never" to in the hobby that you later gave in to?

Too many!

Do you own dolls that aren't BJDs?

I have three Monster High girls, Tamdoll pet bunny and some MLP figures.

What was your last doll-related purchase?

Doll-Chateau's Hilary.

What do you expect your next doll-related purchase to be?

Probably a new wig for Gretel, my Minimay, since her current one is tad too small.

What was the last doll-related thing to arrive to you by mail?

Hummm, probably some Re-ments I bought for my little dolls.

What was the last doll-related thing you purchased in person?

I bought a fine t-shirt a friend made <3

Not counting floating heads, floating bodies, and anything on layaway (paid off dolls count), how many complete dolls do you own?

21. Yikes.

Strangeling

Photo from Doll Chateau
One strange little bird with looooong arms coming this way! <3 I've been eying Doll Chateau's odd, yet beautiful dolls for a while now, and after all I couldn't resist purchasing this little one. Bird, yes, ahem...yes, she's a bird - AGAIN. I seem to have some kind of obsession with bird dolls as I currently have six dolls whose characters all different kind of birds. Ravens, magpies and pigeons to be exact. Well, luckily Idris (my Adamelli) is a dream pony, and Gretel and Griselda are mice girls, so I'm not complitely stuck on this bird thing...

I bought some Cernit today, since I always say I suck at sculpting - but the truth is I haven't even really tried. I'm trying to make a pair of geta sandals for Gretel, as I decided to sew her an outfit for the annual hannami party in Roihuvuori's Japanese park. Yukata, some kanzashi and stuff. Here's hoping I get something nice done!

p.s. I decided to name my Hilary Pio, and I really don't know why. I just think she looks a lot like Pio. I'm sure there will be a story behind it, but just not yet!

A teeny visitor

Uguu!

Uguu 2

A friend's tiny little "Uguu" (Leekeworld Allie) is visiting to get some clothes! I've finished her a hat, of course and a dress. She is so cute! I eyed her too when she was released ;) I just cannot pose her at all xD

I have been thinking the future direction of my hobby, and I've set some goals for myself for the rest of the year. These include:

  • Finish a set of hats for this year's Ldoll festival.
  • Open up an Etsy store which I've had for a long while, just haven't listed anything yet. It seems to be a slow process ^^;
  • Get dolls finished. Poor Krüm has no eyes, and all the big boys could use new clothing. Some dolls lack rather critical clothing items, such as panties, derp.
  • Get photostories done! I've been thinking of setting up a Finnish blog for these, which I could also fill with blabber and art when I get some done...
  • Do things and enjoy them!

Roses, sequins, beads

WIP2

Mint for her too

Here are some shots of new hat designs I've been preparing. Okay, that PF-sized kitty rose hat is mine, but the rest are going to this year's Ldoll festival for sale. I'm really into making those ribbon roses now although mine aren't very tidy. I know the proper way of making 'em, but I'm lazy, so I just usually take some ribbon and whip it around. I think they look better with some, uh, chaos added xD (and usually when I'm around, there's plenty of chaos!)

Tallinn was great again! We visited all those three big craft stores, Karnalüks, Abakhan fabrics and Kangadzungel. This time we took a taxi from the harbour to the are where the stores are located and shopped to our hearts' content! I got some new lace, yarns (this time no mint green!), embroidery threads, random sewing accessories like buttons and uh...tons of beads and sequins which are so cheap in Tallinn it's not even funny ;3; Afterwards we went to have some coffee and snacks at local Stockmann's cafe which is a nice place, fair prices and tasty stuff, and it was almost empty even they had of course their local Hullut Päivät.

Then we walked to Virukeskus and shopped some random things, I got myself a bright neon yellow Konad nail polish and earrings from Hello Kitty store. After picking up some salad and random refreshments it was time to head to our ship cabinet, eat, relax and admire our purchases. Definitely an awesome trip!

I put some photos of my purchases to my Tumblr as I think they have much better photo interference than Blogger :-3

And now I have many small projects to finish o/

Carneval spirit

We celebrated our Finnish BJD community's birthday yesterday in Helsinki. I was there too, of course, helping with the arrangements, looking and acting like a total dork and drinking coffee. There were so many great dolls and outfits and argh...mine didn't look very shabby since I had no time nor inspiration to make anything grand ;_; Luckily there is always the next year!

The two photos are taken by jesmo, thanks for letting me borrow 'em! Unfortunately you cannot see that I did prepare something, a bird's tail for Morri. She just doesn't stand very well so it was sort of hidden all the time.

We had a fun time, meetups are great <3

Mister Gravity

Gravity!

Here for the first time - and for the last time as I took this photo for his sale post. Nifty and personal head with lots of character, but unfortunately all too small to work with my crew :(

If someone wants to give him a good home, let me know! He is white-skinned, pinky white to be exact, quite small and realistic and a charming fellow. Aria is quitting so you're not able to order him anymore.

Mint with mint

And what's an update without my animal hats? xP This one's a gift for my friend, but I made a similar one, just with kitty ears, for Griselda. Yes, mint again. I'm all for mint these days, for my dolls and for myself! Myself, I've purchased mint skinny jeans, several nail polishes and am even pondering a mint-coloured wig. Yes, for myself. Spring's really coming :D

Mint chocolate's my favourite

I finished a small amigurumi bear for my dolls yesterday:

Mint chocolate bear

Mint chocolate bear

The pattern is from here, easy to follow and very simple. I wanted a mint chocolate theme. The yarn is from Estonia, I had to stock it up because it's just the perfect shade, and I want to knit more mint stuff for the dolls. I purchased a bunny pattern too from a different seller (I cannot crochet without patterns at all, I don't know why it's so hard :D), so it will be my next project. Please also notice Unni's new great hair from Formydoll. I love their vintage green!

Ehm, nothing new grand here. My Gravity from Aria arrived, but I had to order a new head for him right away. Awesome sculpt, yeah, but the head is t-i-n-y. It's MSD-sized, only the face is longer. I might be able to live with that, but his character is supposed to be Niko's brother, and Niko is CP's Dreaming Shiwoo...yep, those two just don't work together, and there is no way they'll look anyway related xD Actually none of my SD-sized dolls look like they'd be in scale with him :B Luckily I found another head which is larger and should work with his body, so we'll see, we'll see...

Sometimes I wish I didn't care about doll backgrounds, stories and characters so much xD Oh well, live and learn!

On Thursday I visited Estonia's craft stores again and came back with stuff. We'll visit them again in few weeks. I'm planning to purchase tons of lace that time, this time I mostly bought sequins and embroidery threads. And lace, of course, but not as much.

But where to get time and inspiration to actually do something with all the stuff I buy? :D

Two of a kind

I did some doll photography with my girlfriend Illves this morning, and here's my share of photos! The dolls are my Meital and her Jericho

Two of a kind

Two of a kind II

Two of a kind IV

Two of a kind V

Two of a kind VI

Two of a kind VII

Yep, their relationship used to be rather complicated and full of strange emotions. They didn't have a proper relationship - Jericho would secretly love and worship Meital, and Meital being a simple and innocent girl just didn't realize it and considered Jerri her best friend. But then all kinds of things happened, Jericho found his true love from a surprising direction and these days these two are just best friends, two of a kind. Despite their different looks, they are very much the same, two innocent and fluffheaded angels <3

Hope you liked the photos!

Sunday's sunlight

Always together

My two big girls

Featherhead

As I had to dig out some photography equipment anyway to take some off-topic photos, I decided to snap some pics of my big dolls. Meital is my favourite model, she never fails to look amazingly pretty

Sugarfairys and pasteldust

Sugar and pastel II

Sugar and pastel VI

Sugar and pastel V

Here are some snaps from my latest photoshoot with my Pocketfairy twins, since Gretel (Minimay) finally recieved her proper eyes and wig. Their theme is not surprisingly pastel colours, apparently. I've been very inspired by dreamy kei style lately so I think they'll get accessories and clothes following that style. You can already spot some of my Little Twin Stars Re-ments there, and I spotted some more LTS stuff in H&M's kids' department so...

Oh sweet Estonia

Haul!

I visited Tallinn yesterday with Xaya and our spouses. Our idea was to check out their local craft stores, and oh boy, oh boy *_* Well, the photo tells it all. The selection was superb, and the prices were great, so I bought a ton of stuff, especially mohair yarn skeins :3 The fabrics were not much cheaper than in Finland, but everything else, especially laces, beads, sequins...my muscles still hurt from dragging all that back home, but so worth of it! Can you maybe spot what's my favourite colour these days? ;)

Yeah, it's mint green. We're already planning the next trip since I ran out of space and couldn't concentrate on their laces very well. And now just need to think what to do with all this stuff!

Jos joku kaipailee neuvoja miten noihin aarreaittoihin pääsee Tallinnassa niin kysellä saa :) Kävelymatkan päässä keskustasta löytyy Tarton maantien varrelta kolme isoa kauppaa, joista etenkin Karnalüks on melkoinen paikka.

Demonista aktiviteettia koko rahalla! (A Finnish photostory)

Hey my Finnish readers, this post is only for you ;3

Story photo VII

Sain pitkästä aikaa vähän nukkestooria tehtyä, jee. Sitä voi käydä lukemassa joko Hartsilapsien foorumilla tai Livejournalissa :3 No, eipä siinä kai sen kummempia!

Double the little trouble

I invited some dolly friends today to do crafts together, eat sweets and gossip ^^ We had a fun time, and jesmo brought along some of her tinies which go very well with mine ;3

Double the trouble

Our Strawberry Didis <3

Hello, sis

And my Enne and her Nene who is a Pukifee Bonnie. They are sisters, that's why their names rhyme. You can spot Enne's new pretty wig from Dollheart (it wasn't easy to find a perfect mint green wig in her size!) and a duck from Luts. Quack!

I managed to finish a pair of horrible knitted socks for Niko and hope to be able to shoot some kind of a story tomorrow xD; It's been a while, and I've missed story-making so much...here's hoping all goes well.

Miss Sparkles

Miss Sparkles

Finally new Monster High dolls here in Finland <3 Okay, not exactly "new" but new to us! I don't love these dolls so much that I'd buy them off Ebay for high prices, but when they come to local toy stores...well, you can guess what has happened ;) I skipped Spectra since she was quite expensive and I'm not 100% sure about her rather horse-like facemold (sorry Spectra fans!), but here's my Gloom Beach Abbey. She's one sparkly girl, love her hands and glittering blue skin.

I'm not sure what I want to do with her. Beforehand I've customized my MHs but there is something about Abbey that she might just as well stay in her stock form. Unless I get some grand idea...

Yay Monster High!

Girl with hooves

Idris

Girl with hooves

Idris is finally ready, phew, this took a while! I asked the Finnish face-up-artist varjostin to do my Soomlings' faceups for the first time, and she did an excellent job. She has a great style which goes very well with my taste in dolls, so I think you'll see more of her work with my dolls in the future ;)

Kivi's head works very well with Idris, since I think she's very a gentle and happy girl even though her life's quite difficult and lonely. I don't know what exactly she is, she has Leeke's fox ears and horse hooves, so ummm...some sort of magical dream ponything, maybe? xD; Her twin brother Sindri (I call him 'Adanor' since he's Adamelli head + Nor body) is also faceupped, but the poor boy has no clothes and I'm not sure about his eyes...we'll see.

It is here!

A proper Finnish winter it is! There's a ton of snow (my commute trips have been long and interesting) and it's also fairly cold even here. I had great plans to go outside today, but then I looked at the thermometer and decided that actually our balcony is just fine :B

Awake

I like winter

Aegis is the one with most winter gear so he got the honour to be my photography victim today. I think his new dorky hat from Angell-studio fits him very well <3 We've come a long way together, haven't we? It's funny to think that I've owned him since 2006 and never even thought of selling him. I don't think I could be without him, the other two key BJDs are Meital and Uncle K.

--

Luckily my dress is warm

I purchased some knitting patterns from Myfairydolly on Etsy, and here's one almost ready for Enne. It wasn't very hard to make, the only problems I had were with reading knitting abbravations in English xD The next project shall be a similar dress for Unni, luckily I got some nifty sock yarns from my mom this X-mas. Whee!

Sunday, January 22, 2012

All kinds of crafty projects

I made myself a little promise to update my blog every week even if it feels I haven't done anything special and epic. I would love to (well, as "epic" as my dorky doll characters go) but alas, I still haven't got any great ideas how to continue my story projects. So their winter hiatus shall continue until I come up with new ideas and how to turn them into the form of a BJD photo story. That isn't always so simple ^^;

But meanwhile I've played with the smaller ones and done some craft projects:

Harem pants

I was commissioned to create a pair of harem pants for Soom Little Gem boy, ice/winter/cold theme. I wanted something similar that Soom does but with my own style, and I am personally quite happy how these turned out. And so was the buyer <3

The sugar twins

And a pair of dresses for the sugar twins, similar materials and the same pattern but yet slightly different. The sets should have small beaded necklaces as well, but I need to find smaller locks to use :3

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Double the trouble

Well, whoops

Well, whoops

Yep, I think I mentioned something about giving Griselda a sister...so here she is! A friend kindly sold me her Kissing Minimay who became Gretel, Gris' twin sister. They're both very precious, although I yet have no definite idea what to do with these two. I've been toying with the thought of making them little mice girls with ears and tails <3 Something fairytale-like and cute, of course!

Saturday, January 7, 2012

Sleepy here

Squint squint

Griselda got her own wig from Geniever of DOA <3 It seems that Pukipuki wigs work well with her. She's so small, squinty and cute! And, uhh...yeah. She will get a sister soon ;) I love my big dolls dearly but there is just this something these little ones...

--

And I know this is supposed to be my doll blog and these are definitely not dolls, but I just have to share our new pets, four curious and cute fancy mice girls.

Nap-time!

Here they are taking a nap in their carrying box while their terrarium is being cleaned. From left to right:

  • Fröja, Himalayan, the oldest and the most reserved and shy. She came first, and I was afraid she would boss around the newcomers...oh bah. Agata and Brynja both teased her, and she is still very aware around them and may run and hide, but things are getting slowly slightly better. We had to temporarily remove all nests and climbing ropes from them since they kept chasing poor Fröja from them :( But things are luckily improving, and they are getting along better. Fröja likes to build very fine nests <3
  • Agata, black, Brynja's sister. Well, she's the boss already, small but very gutsy, lively, curious and very brave. Okay, until I appear, then she runs in her hiding place very fast xD She's still very young and especially fond of hopping around like a small kangaroo. She doesn't enjoy so much sleeping with the others.
  • Brynja, white, Agata's sister. Most of the times I have no idea what is going on in this mouse's head. She has no patience at all, but everything is interesting! She's fast, the most curious, little ADHD case. And her nest-building skills suck so much xD Usually she just digs a hole, causing an awful noise and chaos (today she buried their seed cup), runs around and then chases to her sister's side for a warm nap. Maybe she'll grow brains when she grows up? Unfortunately Brynja also tries to boss the others if given a chance, but luckily Agata is very quick at putting Brynja to her place.
  • Gudrun, beige. She's about the age of Agata and Brynja but is already much more calm, relaxed and self-confident. She's quick to calm down, make a nest and sleep there - and she gets along with everyone. But when she gets mad, she's very able to show it and to chase even Agata away. I think she has an excellent mouse personality :-3
Even though they are uh, quite the bunch and have given me lots to worry about, I'm still totally smitten by these four <3 Sorry for blabbering so much!
