Little dragon's dream

Today I finally had some dolly time again and a warm pretty weather, so I went outside to photograph Apsu. There aren't too many photos of her, I know :/ We have some small bonding issues, as her baby pink resin yellowed into perfectly normal NS colour. She's supposed to be a half-dragon, so I'd prefer her in some nifty fantasy colour. I may switch her to another Teenie Gem in the future (maybe Soom could make a purple Lami? :D). I do like her face though a lot! <3

I think she's dreaming in these photos - she wouldn't go outside in the forest to play without her parents, never! But in dreams anything is possible, apparently...

Introducting Hiu!

A slightly belated blog post ahead, but better late than never, no? xD

I recently finished a larger sewing project, so finally I can show some photos of Hiu. She's Pipos Dreaming Mari whom I traded off my Elfdoll Catsy, uh...almost three years ago ^^; Well, it definitely took a while to get her faceupped and completed, but here she is:

Her dress (apart from the scarf) is made by me - it's complitely handsewn, as that old vintage silk is very fragile. I dyed the border lace with tea and painted those metal wings with nail foils and gloss. No wonder this took a while ^^;

Strawberry milk! (Azone Kikipop arrival)

I preordered this little duck-faced cutie from Amiami almost immendentially when they started taking orders - and got her home last week. She's Vanamo, Kikipop Sunny Bunny Date Ichigo Milk version ^^ Her name means "twinflower" in Finnish, I wanted to give her a Finnish natural name with a pink theme. She is very pink :D

She'a fun size and very sturdy, I really like her! The only bad thing about her is that she's unable to sit at all xD Her other hip joint bends a little bit (not great) but the other one is just...stuck. Well, I was told that Kikipops can't really sit, so I knew it beforehand ^^ They're super cute and stand very sturdy :-3 She even came with a stand which she doesn't really even need.

I had original plans to customize her, but her eyes are actually really nice and sparkly in real life, and her wig is great quality and so smooth <3 So I'm keeping her as she is and save the customization plans for the next doll, maybe xD I did sell parts of her stock outfit (dress and shirt) so she wouldn't be 100% stock. Need to sew her a new dress, definitely! No worries, I didn't part with her super-adorable bunny cape ;3; It's one of the reasons I bought her.

Now I just want to make her loads of stuff :3

My precious protector

I picked up a new wig for Meital yesterday <3 Her old ones are so worn out, so I got her a new shiny one from For my doll. The wig quality and colour are superb! Of course there is hair everywhere, but it can't be avoided in these kind of wigs xD (I use a soft baby brush + water spray can to tame it.)

So I wanted to snap some shots with her and her kitty, Malva, who also has new stuff from Ylang Garden ^^

A little info about their characters: Malva is not actually a cat, nor her real name is Malva. She's a seraph who was left behind and forgotten in an ancient great war. I haven't yet found out how she came to live with Meital, but I know she truly and geniously loves Meital. That's why she looks like a little mint green kitten, because she takes her physical form from her mistress's wishes :D Well, she doesn't complain, I think she's perfectly happy as a little cute cat ;3

A qilin in the spring

What a perfect weather for doll photography today <3 Sunny and warm enough to survive without gloves a while - yet the snow was powdery and rather dry. I took Idris outside for a change:

p.s. I decided that Idris is a qilin/kirin rather than just random magical creature, as she has horse hooves and deer antlers xD A good excuse to buy all kinds of Asian costumes for her, no? She's rather shy and rather hides in the dream world, but spotting her is a good omen and will bring you some good luck.

February knittings

As the title promised, here are some recent knitting projects I've done ^^ Both are commissions, but yes, my own dolls have asked for their own too xD I really like knitting with thin mohairs these days, surely it's time-consuming, but the scale just looks so nice <3

An oversized greyish blue cardigan in SD-size, cable knitting in the sleeves and stuff :3

And a light purple hoodie for Soom Teenie Gem, working buttons and lace-trimmed hood. This was the very first hood I've knitted, and it was actually really simple. There will be more of these, as Hilde already ordered a light pink one for herself :D Needy little thing! Well, she deserves it...

Happy Valentine's from Birdy!

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! Or actually in Finland we call this day "a friend's day" which I actually like much better. I already have one sweetheart whom I cherish every day, but it's never a bad idea to remember your friends as well.

I've met so many nice and talented people through this hobby, so here's a collective THANK YOU to all of you <3

I took some pictures of Birdybird (Chisa) in her new Azone kimono set and my Valentine chocolates I got from work (and ate already, haha).

Chisa's brave and gutsy smile is my favourite part of her! It will cheer up any day ;3;

I needed to photograph some knitting commissions today anyway, so I took some snaps of Meital and Niko, my angel siblings:

Niko's new wig is from Dollmore - did you know they have a really handy Ebay store with very reasonable shipping? I personally hate arranging group orders, so this is a good option xD

1. Do you prefer enjoying the hobby by yourself or by socializing a lot with other people (meet-ups etc.)? 

Both! I enjoy the company of others a lot and like to meet up, but with my dolls I like to do things my own way and with my own schedule.

2. Do you ever take a doll with you when you travel? 

I do, if I'm planning to photograph or knit something and need a model :)

3. Is there any doll/figure that you didn't like at first, but then later fell in love with? 

Hmm mmm, maybe Kinoko Juice Kikipops? Or actually I liked them first, then thought that they might be too big for me (I didn't really bond with my Pullips or Blythe so I'm bit wary with big-headed dolls). And then as I saw the new releases, I thought I could try anyway :D

4. If you miss a limited doll, do you want to hunt down that exact one or wait for new similar releases? 

Uh, luckily I very rarely fall in love with LEs! But I guess I could wait for a new similar release unless this LE is really hard to replicate.

5. Have you ever thought of quitting the hobby? If so, why? 

Nope!

6. What company has impressed you the most and why? 

Well, my favourite BJD company is probably Bluefairy, but I wouldn't call their dolls very "impressing", they just have the style I like :D I'll answer Soom, because they really started this fantasy doll genre.

7. If you had to get a doll of some existing anime/movie/game/other character, who would it be? 

Uh oh. I'll answer Dorian from Dragon Age: Inquisition just because I really like him.

8. Do you prefer male or female dolls/figures?

I have both. I like female dolls better, but I make better male doll / RPG characters.

9. What is the most memorable comment that you've gotten about your hobby? 

Well, I've heard I'm someone's biggest doll idol, and that made me happy and flustered at the same time. (And I sort of wanted to just hide under the table but haha, let's not care about that xD)

10. Which one do you enjoy more - reading or watching TV/movies? 

I rather watch stuff, so I can knit at the same time :3

11. If you had your own doll company, what kind of dolls would you make?

Cute fantasy dolls with lots of sparkle and pastels, of course!

I need to finish my layaway for Peakswood's Kass and buy a lady from Impldoll as new Hecate. I'm planning to order that new Kikipop once they're released, and I'll probably get some more Azones just because. New wigs and clothes are of course mandatory - luckily I just got rid of plenty of extra wigs I've had laying around.

4. What is your perfect pizza? 

Tomato sauce, cheese, champion mushrooms, pineapple (!!!), fresh tomatoes, pesto and feta cheese.

5. Which doll would you get if you could, not matter what? Why? 

Hum, I have all my biggest grail dolls already, so I don't know for now...maybe that new Iplehouse H.I.D. body in tan skin. I want to replace that old EID body so bad >_>

6. What kind of music do you listen to? 

I have a varied taste, but recently I've been mostly listening to instrumental anime/game OSTs.

7. What cheers you up? 

Chatting stupid stuff and plotting character stuff with my friends, coffee, sugary things, my husband and watching our pet mice doing silly things.

8. What is your favorite word and why?

I like Finnish words related to snow such as Tuisku, Hanki, Nietos, Lumi - they sound so pretty!

9. Have you ever felt that your hobby is too much and that you do not connect well with your dolls? 

Not really ^^ Sometimes I'm too busy with my IRL stuff, but I'm trying to do whatever I can when I have the time :3

10. You are going for a trip, a week long, and you can only take ONE doll with you. Which one and why? 

Humm, I'd probably get one of my Pureneemos because of their size ^^

11. What's your earliest childhood memory?

I remember my first toys, I used to have a baby doll Pekka and a teddybear called Niina. (Such unoriginal names, I know xD).

1. What sort of book would you make from your dolls? 

Ah, a fantasy story, of course :D I've written about my characters some, so it would be the same size, just long enough to be a book.

2. What size of doll would you prefer if you could only have one size? 

Uhhhhh....well, judging from my current crew, I think it would be SD-size. They just represent my characters the best. Although the smaller ones are really nice as well!

3. Have you ever been in doll event? (Dolls Party, LDoll, etc)

No. I'd like to go, but I have some issues about travelling, as I tend to stress too much about such things :D I'd need someone to keep me company and help me to keep my worrying streak in control.

4. Do you have nicknames for your dolls?

Yes, they do! Kaamos is usually uncle K., Meital is Meitsku, Mirwaise is Mirkku, Aegis is Ääkki, Shimral is Shimppa, Hecate is just "auntie", Lochesh is Lokki, Adriel is Addy and so on :D Some of their nicknames are official and some are just names I call them when I talk about them with my friends.

5. Is there anything that you'd like to learn to make yourself for your dolls that you currently don't? (Clothes, shoes, face up, furniture etc).

Faceups and customizations, definitely! Of course I'd love to do furniture as well, but I think it might require tools and space I just don't have.

6. If you would bump into dolls NOW and find them interesting, which doll would you buy? And is it different than the one you did? 

Oh, probably a fantasy doll from Soom, I guess. And yes - Angelregion is out of doll business, I think?

7. Have you been belittled by anyone because you have dolls?

No, never. I'm quite selective to whom I tell about my dolls and usually share them with just people with nerdy interests who I know will understand unusual hobbies.

8. Where do you photograph your dolls? Do you have favourite spot in/out? 

I have a spot in our apartment where there is space and light, and usually set up a background there. I also go outdoors, of course, and we have plenty of forests around us. I like places which are quiet, I cannot stand curious passerbys ^^;

9. Do you keep your dolls out of sight or somewhere where you can see them continuously? 

They are in our shelf, and I see them all the time. I enjoy looking at them, I could never keep them in boxes.

10. Is there one doll that got away? Why? 

No, not really <3 My Bluefairy tan Didi was harder to get, but luckily I got her as well :D

11. Are you happy how your dolls look or do you want to change their looks all the time?

I like their styles, but sometimes I get bored of their old look and want to buy new wigs and stuff to refresh them a little bit ^^

1. What is the first thing you look for when you're sculpt hunting? 

Well, mostly I look for things I like, like full lips, squinty eyes and such. If I'm trying to dollify an existing character, I'll of course look how much it resembles my character.

2. Name one of your favorite, or your absolute favorite company, and tell us why you chose it? 

These days I guess it's Bluefairy. I just like their dolls and stylings the best!

3. Are you in the hobby because you simply like dolls and think they are beautiful, or is there another reason? 

I like all the creativity this hobby enables. You can paint, sculpt, sew, customize, build, draw, write...well, you can do anything with the dolls! Of course they're beautiful too.

4. Describe how your perfect sculpt would look like! (You can attach an illustration or sketch for fun) 

Uh oh. A girl doll, fantasy resin colour, maybe grey or lavender. Squinty eyes, pouty mouth, lots of soul in her face. A well-sculpted body with some fat on it, wide hips and meaty thigs. Some rolls in her belly would be cute ;3;

5. Choose one doll from your collection that you would part it! And explain why. 

Hum, maybe that I wouldn't part with? I'll pick Kaamos (CP Moon) and Meital (LM Sophia). They're the key characters of my doll story, and I couldn't give up on them!

6. Tell us something interesting about one of your resin family members! 

I have such an interesting problem with Hecate, who will be Impldoll Idol very soon :D Her character is a mother of my three SDs and 55 years old, so I have huge troubles making her look old and chubby enough xD All BJD girls are so pretty and thin!

7. If you were suddenly gifted with the skill of BJD sculpting, what would you name your company? 

Yikes! Probably Fair Children?

8. What is one question you hate being asked in this hobby? 

Although my doll name is Fair Children, THEY ARE NOT MY CHILDREN. Oh dear lord. Well nor are my pets my children. I work with real kids, so I just don't want to compare them and resin dolls.

9. Do your dolls have favorite foods? (you can pick one doll, and share) 1

Oh, interesting! I'll think of something :D

Well I don't really hate anything :D But some art dolls with overly wide hips and narrow waist are no really my thing. (I don't want to name any sculpts though!)

Introducing Sylvia

Whoops, I have yet another new Azone girl to introduce ^^; I don't know how this happens, they just invite themselves over I guess xD Anyway, here is Sylvia, my second Chiika (Little Match Girl version). I split her up with safir so I got just the nude doll.

I could not pass this cutie, because Chiika is my favourite Azone girl AND she has that adorable smile and bob-cut hair. Let's hope Azone won't release any more cute Chiikas so I don't end up with an army :P

In other news, things may not be as active in the dolly front as I started working full time again. I just haven't got much energy for dolls after a long day at work :/ Luckily it does good for my doll budget though xD And yep, I have some new interesting things planned for this year as well <3

The tiniest dress

I knitted this at my parents' home during Christmas and finished it yesterday - a knitted dress for Azone's Pureneemo ^^ I'm quite proud of it, as Picconeemo is the smallest doll in my crew and a challenging size. But this one was a success in the first try and was even rather easy and fun to make, yay!

And as you can see, I've changed Pip's D body into S version :3 I just didn't get along with those huge chibi hands + I think this S body is really pretty. And small of course, but it's part of the charm!

Doll year 2015

So it's 2016, wow, how the time flies. This is a special doll year for me, as this is my tenth year in BJD hobby. I got my first BJD Aegis in June 2006. No wonder I sometimes feel bit old xD But it's all right, I've had a great time and hope to make lots of new interesting things in 2016.

I wanted to post some of the highlights of my doll year 2015, so here we go:

I bought Shimral from my friend in January, just because he is grey and pretty ^^; He has really grown on me, and he's an interesting character. And well, pretty too :D

And I ended up selling my Soom Epidia, in order to replace Hecate later with another sculpt. I really like Soom's SG body, but it ended up just no longer fitting anymore to Hecate's mature character. She's the MOM of my storyline, and Supergem is just too thin and young for this fantastic yet slightly eccetric matriarch. She'll be replaced with a better version of herself once I'm done with another layaway :3

I fell for Azone Pureneemos, and currently I have eight and ninth on the way xD They're, ummm...it's bit hard to explain, but I admit I am quite ambitious with my own BJDs, their stylings and storylines. But Pureneemos for me are just for fun! I just dress them up in cute stuff and let them hang around. Their great purpose is to just be damn cute, and that's just fine <3

I've also bought some anime figures, mostly Nendoroids. I currently have a problem with space though as our apartment is rather small, so I'm trying to keep this thing under control. I have some One-Punch Man stuff coming though xD (I love that series!)

I've attended meetups, big and small, and met lots of nice new people and had a great time! I'm happy about this, since I used to be so shy and timid when I was younger, and I still have nervousness issues in larger crowds. So if you spot me babbling non-stop, it's usually because I'm so nervous and trying to hide it - just tell me to stop xD But luckily people have been and will be so nice, and I've had a great time ;3; I'm really waiting for summer and outdoor picnics with you all!

I've traveled and spent of course time with the dearest person in my life, my gentle and loving husband <3 He's not personally into dolls, but he supports and helps me a lot behind the scenes. Thank you and sorry there are so many ;_;

I used to draw a lot when I was younger. I just sort of...forgot it, but now I've picked up the pencil again. And installed my tablet and some software again xD; So there probably will be more stuff like this in the future!

And the last doll purchase of 2015! The layaway is still going on, but it's no secret I've ordered this lovely boy from Peak's Woods ;3; Well, he has pastel skin, pouty mouth, squinty eyes...yeah. It will take a while to pay him up, but I'm looking forward to it <3 He will be called Ashja, and he'll be Shimral's little brother, well, sort of. More pastel boys, yay!
